Mechanical keyboards have become more popular among truck drivers as they can quickly replace keys in many instances.
However, they’re not cheap.
A recent survey of truckers found that an average mechanic salary of $47,895 is well below the median of $53,721.
And even after paying the deductible, most truckers would need to work more than 50 hours per week to cover their expenses, according to the survey.
Mechanical keyboards aren’t for everyone, either.
Some people prefer the feel of a mechanical keyboard over the tactile buttons and other functions of a computer keyboard.
“I think a lot of people prefer typing with a mouse and that it’s easier to type with a keyboard,” said Mike Haggerty, a mechanic and former president of a trucking company in Ohio.
“It’s more comfortable and more efficient.”
